West Africa is an expanding area for shipping and Stena Oil now launches a new business venture, supplying bunkers offshore in West Africa. Drawing on our vast experience of performing offshore bunkering services under extremely demanding conditions in the Nordic area, we will now supply fuels to vessels from off Abidjan to Lagos, Pointe Noire and all the way down the coast to Luanda.
From the start, Stena Oil will be able to supply bunkers 30 – 50 miles off the coast of various locations, offering a safe, reliable and flexible service to ship owners. In order to maintain the high standards of reliable deliveries we will use two customized tankers on long-term time charter, together with our partner Tarntank.
Patrik Pettersson, Executive Vice President, Stena Oil:
-Through this expansion we strengthen our position as one of the worlds most reliable and quality focused operators in the bunker industry. We now have the opportunity to prove our exceptional commitment to quality, flexibility and performance to new customers in WAF. West Africa, being a region of increasing shipping activities, puts great demands on experience and reliability – and we are happy to supply this. Being both a buying and a selling operator with long experience from this area, Stena Oil as a supplier has the advantage of knowing exactly what the customer demands from his supplier and we are therefore in a position to operate proactively and with great efficiency.
Stena Oil will bring its experience and focus on safety and quality into the West Africa operations. The vessels and crews, for example, have undergone the same stringent bunker quality assurance programme as we use in Scandinavia, called Green Bunkering. The vessels are equipped with the latest technology for efficient operations and flow meters to verify volumes supplied. The vessels to be used in West Africa are the double-hulled tankers M/T Tarnsjo (10.887 DWT) and M/T Tarnfors (8.245 DWT). At present these vessels are making good speed towards West Africa and will be on location around the 20th of January, bringing with them Stena Oil’s commitment to safety, flexibility and performance.
