Big benefits from recycling

Recycling offers tremendous benefits compared with manufacturing the products we use from new materials:

• Recycling reduces emissions of carbon dioxide, which harm the atmosphere and impact our climate.
• The energy gains are usually considerable. For example, recycling aluminum reduces energy consumption by 95 percent compared with producing aluminum from new raw materials.
• Recycling also means that we don’t have to tap limited natural resources (forest products, ore, oil) more than necessary.

Millions of tons of waste every year

Every year the Stena Metall Group recycles millions of tons of scrap, paper, hazardous waste, electronics, etc. in large areas of Europe. These volumes correspond to more than ten million tons of carbon dioxide, or as much as 1.7 million Swedes generate each year through travel, housing and other consumption.

Stena is constantly getting better at recycling. With new technology and processes, we are able to recycle more of society’s wastes. We are improving our transports and investing in new, sensible solutions such as rail alternatives. We are developing new know-how through a number of research and development projects together with leading international universities.

In other words, recycling pays off! The best thing of all is that many materials can be recycled over and over and given a new life in the ecocycle.
