The new fragmentation facility is located in Björneborg’s harbor, which offers a number of advantages. “Being located where we are strengthens our market position and local presence in Finland and helps us to offer nationwide services for customers and suppliers,” says Göran Rönnberg.
Operations have been rationalized in several ways. By combining road, rail and sea transports, the company creates transport concepts that reduce the environmental impact.
Quality-assured raw materials
The new facility processes ferrous and non-ferrous scrap, which it converts into quality-assured raw materials for steel mills and smelters.
“Our facility increases the percentage of complex scrap that is recycled, which means that larger volumes can be returned to the ecocycle instead of ending up in landfills,” says Göran Rönnberg.
Environmental considerations
A concrete base under the plant and a sedimentation tank and oil separator for run-off are among the environmental enhancements at the new facility. The mill that crushes the scrap was built in concrete to reduce noise from the plant.
Stena Metalliyhtymä, one of Finland’s leading recycling companies, processes wastes from industry, retailers and municipalities. Its operations are focused on quality and environmentally assured solutions for collecting and recycling ferrous, non-ferrous and stainless scrap. Recycled, quality-assured scrap is sold to steel mills, foundries and smelters. The company has nine facilities in Finland and is headquartered in Riihimäki.
