Ship runs aground – Stena Transport to the rescue
Stena Transport has two barges it uses for scrap transports across the Öresund Channel between Denmark and Sweden, but recently one of them was redirected to a slightly more unusual assignment.
On the last weekend in August a foreign cargo ship ran aground in the northern end of the channel just outside Helsingör. The ship was stuck and its cargo consisting of 3,700 tons of fertilizer had to be unloaded at sea before the vessel could be retrieved.

The unloading effort was recently completed with the help of one of Stena Transport’s barges. The grounded ship’s cargo was unloaded onto the barge, which was then towed to the port of Landskrona, allowing the disabled ship to be pulled to shore.

“This assignment was a little out of the ordinary for Stena Transport, but we are used to handling unusual problems and resolving them,” says Jan Andersson, marketing coordinator at Stena Transport.
