“Working for Stena has changed my life”
Despite gaps in his resume, Ole Winther Hansen got the job as a production worker at Stena Recycling. Facility manager Dag-Rune Eide is convinced that individual drive and potential are more important than previous work experience.
“Working at Stena has in many ways changed my life. I’ve never had a proper, permanent job. I’ve never had a solid routine in my life. So being allowed to work here at Stena has done me so much good. I don’t know how else to say it, I’m happy here,” says Ole Winther Hansen.
“In a recruitment process, I do not look for someone with 20 years of experience at a competitor. Instead, I look for potential in the person applying for the job. Sometimes they are individuals facing challenges in life. By showing interest in them, seeing their potential, and understanding their challenges you help them develop into someone who fits well into my team,” says Dag-Rune Eide.

Inclusion builds strong teams
The production facility is located in Bergen in Norway. It is specialized in ferrous and non-ferrous and electric waste, and the customers are small to medium-sized companies.
“For people outside this industry, I usually say that I take old things apart and try to give them new value. My favorite task is to dismantle transformers, but I also enjoy stripping cables. I really enjoy seeing the results immediately,” says Ole Winther Hansen.
As a facility manager, Dag-Rune is in charge of the working team in Bergen and believe inclusion is important in building strong teams.
“By focusing on inclusion, you create a more secure workplace, foster creativity, build stronger team cohesion, and create happier employees who give better feedback overall. I believe that to succeed as a leader, this is essential. Being inclusive and showing care for your employees.”
“I wouldn’t be here if inclusion wasn’t such a strong focus at Stena. I wouldn’t even have gotten this job if I hadn’t been given a chance to be included. My resume had so many gaps, and so on. But I was allowed to be here for three months, and now I’ve been here for three and a half years. I’m incredibly grateful for that. It means everything to me,” concludes Ole Winther Hansen.
