”Our customers understand why they require more circular solutions”
Louise Eriksson works as the Principal Consultant at Stena Circular Consulting, a division of Stena Recycling and part of the Stena Metall Group. It helps customers develop sustainable circular solutions that deliver the greatest environmental and business value.
Could you please explain your role?
“I've been a part of this team since its inception four years ago. It's been a fascinating journey to be part of. From our humble beginnings as a team of four, initially intended to serve as an internal knowledge hub and support function for Stena Recycling, we've grown to a team of 22 consultants primarily engaging with external clients. While our assignments differ, our common thread is providing support and guidance in the transition toward more circular solutions.”

Where do you see the most significant changes in your client projects today compared to a year ago?
“Nowadays, our clients possess a full understanding of why they require more circular solutions and the rationale behind them. Their request for assistance now centers on identifying how to implement this transition. In the past, there was a need to discuss the "whys" and the extent of resource allocation for these changes. But today, with stricter regulations, more comprehensive sustainability guidelines, and a fresh set of expectations from investors to offer sustainable business solutions, we no longer need to advocate for these changes. It has become a given, and the impetus comes directly from the clients themselves.”
Can you describe a typical client project?
”Client projects vary greatly and are tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. We often liken our collaboration with clients to embarking on a shared journey. Typically, it starts with the client recognizing the need for transformation. This realization might arise from the understanding that sustainable solutions can assist them in achieving their environmental objectives, or due to impending regulations demanding circular business models. This could entail adjusting a company's products to align with a circular economy, such as enhancing repairability or recyclability. Alternatively, it might involve adapting the entire business model to incorporate circular economy concepts, like adopting "as-a-Service" models. We also explore strategies for establishing takeback solutions through strategic partnerships.”
How do you and your colleagues stay updated in your area of expertise?
”Staying current poses a challenge, given the constantly evolving nature of the circular economy field. We stay informed through ongoing client dialogues and projects, as well as participating in relevant forums. Additionally, we collaborate and tap into the expertise within the Stena Metall Group. This unique combination equips us to offer clients a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities available. We specialize in management consulting within the circular economy, delivering value to our clients that benefits us collectively over time. It's an endeavor that's genuinely inspiring.”
